Project Paridhi on EQUINOX DAY

Project Paridhi

SPACE is embarking on yet another international citizen science project to measure the size of the Earth with shadows measurements – “Project Paridhi – measure the earth again”.

On this event, SPACE Educators do public outreach programs with students conducting the experiment to measure the CIRCUMFERENCE of the EARTH using the shortest shadow.

This event will be held on 22nd September, 2012 on the special day of AUTUMN EQUINOX at JANTAR MANTAR, NGO AAAM and Center for Student Excellence in Astronomy and Space Sciences.
On 22nd September, the time of equinox is 14:49 UT or 20:19 IST. The experiment will be performed from 1100 hours to 1300 hours.

EQUINOX DAY

An equinox occurs twice a year (around 20 March and 22 September), when the tilt of the Earth's axis is inclined neither away from nor towards the Sun, the center of the Sun being in the same plane as the Earth's equator.
